Tessa McQueen, soprano

TESSA McQUEEN is in her second year of her Master of Music degree at Rice University and will graduate in May 2024. She graduated with a BM from Oklahoma City University in 2019. In the summer of 2023, Tessa sang with Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist where she covered the role of Marguerite in Faust and performed in the chorus of Semele and Faust. Past credits include Krystyna Zywulska in the newly edited premiere of Jake Heggie’s Two Remain with Central City Opera in 2022. She was the recipient of the Young Artist of the Season Award at CCO. While in attendance at Rice University, she has sung the roles of Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea and looks forward to singing the role of Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia this coming March. Tessa was a Tulsa District Winner in the Laffont Competition and advanced to the Midwest Regionals in both 2022 and 2023. She was a 3rd place prize winner at the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition in 2023, with the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition in 2022, and at the Midwest Regionals in 2022. She is under the tutelage of Nova Thomas at Rice University.
