The City Singers

The City Choir of Washington’s flagship engagement chorus.

The City Singers at a holiday concert, Dec. 2022

The City Singers believes in the power of music to connect communities. The City Choir of Washington (TCCW)’s volunteer engagement chorus, the City Singers, brings upbeat and heartfelt programs of American standards, spirituals, jazz arrangements, holiday favorites, and Broadway tunes to homeless shelters, military retirement homes, government hospitals, and assisted living facilities throughout the greater Washington region. The City Singers ensemble experiences the potency of music and the joy of service at every performance. Audience members are energized during the concerts, singing along, clapping to the beat, and sometimes weeping from emotion. The singers—not always dry-eyed themselves—find it especially rewarding to chat with the audience after a show, and to bring music to people who can rarely attend TCCW regular season concerts.

The City Singers is conducted by TCCW Assistant Conductor Kathleen Jagielski, who studied under Robert Shafer at Shenandoah University. Currently, she is also the choral director at Trailside Middle School in Ashburn, Virginia.

For more information or to inquire about scheduling a performance, please contact Lani Kanakry, City Singers Coordinator.
