A Baroque Christmas

The City Choir of Washington’s inaugural season Christmas program featured some of the most beloved masterpieces from the rich repertoire of Baroque Christmas music.

In addition to the stirring processional, “Personent Hodie” (“Let children’s voices resound today”), arranged by artistic director Robert Shafer, and sing-along carols arranged by David Willcocks, The City Choir of Washington performed Vivaldi’s lively Gloria, Charpentier’s charming Midnight Mass, and selected choruses from Handel’s Solomon (“Music Spread Thy Voice Around”) and Messiah (“Worthy Is the Lamb,” “Amen,” and “Hallelujah”).

Soloists for the performance were all members of The City Choir of Washington and included—
