Andrei Pidkivka, ney flute

ANDREI PIDKIVKA, ney flute, has been critically acclaimed in the United States and Europe as the preeminent performer and educator.  As an educator Dr. Pidkivka presented workshops and master classes at schools and universities and performed as a soloist and a guest  musician with numerous symphony orchestras.  Performances include the Columbus Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and Pittsburgh Symphony.  For the past fifteen years he taught flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone and coached a variety of chamber groups in private and academic settings.  He holds a Doctorate of Music Arts Degree from Michigan State University, USA.  His extensive collection of world instruments, from archaic to modern, encompass a wealth of knowledge and great possibilities. His East European background and extensive world music research keep him in demand as a maker of folk instruments and a recording artist with several recordings to his credit,  The Washington Post wrote, “Andrei Pidkivka breezed through fast passages on a number of ethnic flutes, but he was most winning playing plaintive melodies on the naj, or pan flute, and the tylynka, a long, slender shepherd’s flute with no finger holes”.  With his performance of the “Lord of the Rings Symphony” with the Seattle Symphony the Seattle Times wrote, “Instrumentally, Andrei Pidkivka owned the spotlight with stellar work on Irish ney flutes and pan pipes (close your eyes and you’re in The Shire…)”.  Dr. Pidkivka presented lectures-workshops and performances at:  the Kennedy Center for the Arts, Metropolitan Museum of the Art, The Andy Warhol Museum, Severance Hall, the National Folk Alliance Conference, National Flute Association Conventions in the U.S.  He was interviewed by the Voices of America Network for broadcast in Ukraine, and the National Public Radio and TV affiliate of the PBS in Cleveland, Chicago and Baltimore.
